Why I Made a Pledge, and Why You Should Too

I have turned in my pledge to the Archdiocesan Capital Campaign and I would ask you to do so as well. One Faith, One Family, One Future in Christ is an Archdiocesan wide capital campaign that will devote some serious resources to help with many extraordinary needs in the Church of Northeast Kansas. I’m giving extra over the next 5 years because I believe in the cause and so I am going to make some sacrifices to help.

While many of us already give to the parish, as well as to the Archbishop’s Call To Share, there are other areas that need attention. The same is true at our parish and that is why one of the important aspects of this campaign that you should remember, is that 25% of everything that is collected from Prince of Peace members stays here at Prince of Peace.

Every Catholic family in our Archdiocese will be asked to consider a pledge to this campaign. Our parish has been participating for several months with the help of an amazing group of volunteers. We have also been receiving the assistance of a professional campaign group who is handling all of the mailings, printings and the training of our parish staff and volunteers. I am happy to report that we have commitments from only 90 households in our early stages,
but those few families have pledged over $850,000! Obviously I am not the only person who feels that this is a worthy charity.

It is important for me to say that any gift you give should be in addition to what you are already contributing to our parish and your other charities. Selfishly, I would ask that you definitely not decrease your giving to our parish, but also consider an increase – our parish financial situation is
becoming “interesting."

Every parish relies on our offertory collection. It is so much more convenient for us all now since we have contracted with WeShare to set up regular giving using our credit cards, banking accounts, etc. I know that I find it refreshing that once my contributions are set up, my monthly contribution to the parish, my quarterly contribution to the Capital Campaign and my yearly contribution to Call To Share, are automatic and I am in control of increasing or decreasing them as I feel called to do.

I should clarify that gifts to the Archdiocesan campaign cannot go through our parish WeShare program, but automatic contribution can be set up with the Archdiocese using credit, debit, or automatic withdrawal. You could also make gifts of stock or other non-cash gifts. Some farmers have even given proceeds from the sale of grain!

So please join me in making a pledge to the Archdiocesan Capital Campaign.
