Lazarus Funeral Ministry

The Lazarus Funeral Ministry is a group of parishioners who assist in various ways during funerals.  Often times at funerals, we have a lot of visitors to our church.  We want them to feel comfortable and to be able to pray and mourn for their beloved deceased.  In order to best accommodate their needs, we need parishioners who are willing to assist as ushers/greeters, lectors, sacristans, and choir members.  Each ministry is detailed here:

Ushers/Greeters – help open doors, hand out programs, direct people to parish hall for luncheon, show people where bathrooms/drinking fountain/elevator is, assist with communion lines, be a welcoming face!

Lectors – proclaim the readings when family members are not able to do so (need to be trained)

Sacristans – set up church for funeral; coordinate family members for bringing up gifts and doing readings; be available for general questions (need to be trained for this!)

Choir members – sing and say general responses at the funeral mass (with many non-Catholics in attendance, we need people who know how to ‘respond’ at mass)

When a funeral is scheduled and you are needed, an email or phone call will be made to see if you are available or not.
