Summer Intern - Seminarian Colm Larkin - May 30, 2021

Please welcome Seminarian Colm Larkin who will be with us at Prince of Peace this summer!

Peace,
Fr. Greg

Hello everyone,

My name is Colm (pronounced column) Larkin and I am a seminarian who will be staying at Prince of Peace this summer. I go to seminary in Denver at St. John Vianney Theological Seminary. I am in 3rd Theology and God willing will be ordained a deacon in May of 2022. My home parish is Holy Cross, but I am not originally from the Archdiocese. I was born in Salina, grew up in Omaha, went to high school in Cedar Rapids, IA, and then came to Benedictine College. I graduated Benedictine in 2016 with a degree in Biology before entering seminary the following fall. I am the youngest of four children. My parents are retired and live south of Atchison. My brother is an architect and recently moved with his wife to Shawnee from Chicago. My oldest sister is a Franciscan Sister with the Martyrs of St. George out of Alton, IL. My other sister lives in Lenexa and teaches math at St. James Academy.
I am currently in my 22nd year of Catholic education (Kindergarten through 5 years of seminary), and I am deeply grateful to my parents who sacrificed much for me to go to Catholic schools. Catholic schools are largely to thank for me discovering my vocation. Coming into college, my original plan was to go to KU Med after graduation in order to become a primary care physician for rural areas in need of medical support, but during my time at Benedictine, I began to think that there might be something more that the Lord was asking of me. With the help of some spiritual direction and prayer, I decided to give seminary a shot for at least a year or two. Five years later, I am still here and am very excited to be ordained for this Archdiocese. It is amazing what God can do with a small “yes.”
As far as hobbies are concerned, I really enjoy the outdoors. I love to fish, and I probably spend too much time and/or money on fishing (if that is even possible). Chances are that if I am not around at the parish, I am at a local lake. Being out in Denver for five years has helped me to get into fly fishing as well. Apart from fishing, I love music and movies and just relaxing with my brother seminarians. I used to be a great athlete but various injuries have sidelined me as of late, but I still love cheering on the Chiefs, the Royals, and the Jayhawks.
I am really looking forward to spending the summer with you all. I love having dinner with families so please do not be shy about inviting me over. I think it is one of the greatest ways for me to get to know your families. I look forward to meeting you all soon.
