Reflection for the 19th Sunday in Ordinary Time – August 11th

To continue on my latest theme of needed liturgical help, this week I’m laying out some very specific volunteer needs for the weekend masses.  Training is provide for all of the ministries.  We use a computer scheduling program that allows you to select which mass/es you volunteer for, how often you volunteer, and days that you cannot serve do to other commitments.  There’s an app for your phone that makes it easy to use!

Servers – We are in DESPERATE NEED of servers at almost every mass, but especially the 7:30am and the 5:00pm on Sundays.  Servers do not have to just be kids!  Youth and Adults of all ages are welcome!  Children need to be in 6th grade or older.  All servers go through training before they assist at mass.

Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion – these volunteers serve the Body and Blood of Christ during Communion.  We need more volunteers for the 5pm mass on Sunday.  There is one weekend in September where we have 5 openings for that mass!  We would hate to not serve the Blood of Christ or to limit the number of lines at this mass, but we need YOU to step forward to help!  All are trained before serving in this ministry.

Hospitality – We need both greeters and ambassadors for several masses. Greeters welcome people into our church, open doors, and hand out the children’s coloring sheet; ambassadors answer questions at the kiosk in the gathering space.  Training is provided.  Specific needs: Ambassadors and greeters for the 5pm mass on Sundays; ambassadors at the 11am mass (6 out of 9 upcoming weekends need ambassadors!); ambassadors at 7:30am (3 out of 9 spots are open),

Ushers – We need additional ushers at the 5pm Sunday mass.  Ushers help seat people, assist with Communion and hand out bulletins.  They are also available to help in other special circumstances.  Training is provided.  We need ushers who are willing to take on a few additional responsibilities as serve as the coordinator for a mass – this need is for almost every mass, but especially the 11am and the 5pm Sunday masses.

Please consider if you can help in any of these ministries.  It’s a great way to get to know other parishioners, and it’s not much of an extra time commitment as you should already be at mass!  It’s also a good reason to go to mass if you’re having a hard time fulfilling that Commandment – having others depend on you to show up is a little bit of good pressure on you to go!
