Reflection on the 17th Sunday in Ordinary Time - July 26, 2020

We begin our Mass this weekend with the song “Table of Plenty” that sings of how God provides everything for us at His altar. This idea flows directly into our first reading where God is providing everything that Solomon needs when he asks God for wisdom when questioned. Turn to God, and He will provide.

This weekend in the Gospel we hear the parable of the buried treasure and the fine pearl – both stories where the person who finds it, sells everything they have in order to buy it. And the net full of fish, where the fisherman keeps the good fish and throws the bad fish away, just like the angels will do at the end of time with us. Let’s all keep following in His ways so we don’t get thrown away! A great way to do this is to follow the Beatitudes that we sing about at Communion, which is also the Communion antiphon for the day.

We conclude our Mass with “God Has Chosen Me.” Yes, you have been chosen by God to do His work on earth. You.

  • How are you going to do that this week?
  • Are you going to feed the hungry?
  • Visit the imprisoned?
  • Are you going to make peace with someone?
  • Are you going to show mercy?
  • Are you willing to be persecuted for the sake of God?
