New Deacon Aspirant - Jaime Fuentes - August 27, 2022

I’m excited to announce that one of our own Prince of Peace parishioners, Jaime Fuentes, was recently accepted into formation for the permanent diaconate! The formation program is pretty intense, roughly one weekend full of classes a month, plus lots of home/field work in between, for six years, so God and Jaime and Archdiocese willing, he’ll be ordained a deacon in 2028. I’m excited for Jaime, and I ask you to pray for him.

Peace,
Fr. Greg

My name is Jaime Fuentes, and I have been a Prince of Peace parishioner for more than 12 years. I am originally from Colombia-Bogotá. My beautiful and caring wife, Paola Fuentes, and I have two wonderful children: Nicole, 25, and Alexander, 14, a recent graduate of Prince of Peace School.

I work in the IT industry as a consultant and instructor for educational institutions, and I am currently part of the University of Ottawa Faculty fellowship. It was not until the last four years, through my involvement with our parish and the archdiocese in different ministries, that I discovered the glory of God in serving those around us.

God's plans are almost always different from mine, but his ideas are still perfect! Having the patience to wait for His time instead of forcing mine made me realize a new purpose in my life.
The Lord blessed me with a great Catholic family as my parents planted in us the faith and mission of our Lord Jesus Christ. I was part of Catholic youth groups, and that is how I began to feel the need to follow Jesus as he intended me to do, by serving Him and helping spread His word. I have had countless satisfactions in my professional life helping young adults to achieve their goals. Like St. Augustine, who was a tireless seeker rather than a systematic thinker, I also felt the need to keep looking for meaningful growth. That is why I feel called to the path of the diaconate to learn the word of God as the principal balance in my life and trust that the Holy Spirit will teach, guide, and put me at the service of others.
