Awake, Not Woke - September 24, 2023

On Wednesday, September 27th, we will be hosting the Awake, Not Woke presentation. It is an evening of catechesis and enrichment on living out our faith in the midst of our cancel-culture. The evening will be focused on the beauty and truth of the Catholic faith and the power of living that faith in the cancel culture.

Our culture is increasingly becoming anti-chrisitan. We are beginning to see a persecution of the ways that the Church tells us to live. This so-called “woke” culture is not always in line with what the Church teaches and shows us is the path to holiness. It often pushes against the reality of what is truly for our good.

To be awake in Christ, is to be striving towards holiness. St. Ireneaus tells us that “the glory of God is man fully alive.” To be fully alive we must be striving for holiness, striving for relationship with Jesus, and striving to be the men and women that Jesus wants us to be; oftentimes this is different than what the world is telling us.

The great Pope Benedict XVI once said to a group of young people at World Youth Day: “the world offers you comfort. You were not made for comfort. You were made for greatness.” This greatness that we are being called to is not always easy and is not always what the world tells us. Striving for greatness, is striving for holiness. Holiness can only be found when we root ourselves in Jesus Christ and in following what he asks of us.

Let's be AWAKE in Christ, not woke to the lies of modern society.
